Objectives and Process
Purpose
This database is designed to promote the development of the market for Eco and Sustainable construction materials.
It details products that are destined for use within the construction of buildings and aims to facilitate access to information on eco-materials and sustainable building technologies.
Of particular use to craftsmen, builders, architects etc, the purpose of the Eco-Materials Database is to encourage the choice of materials on the basis of their environmental impact in addition to traditional criteria.
Information and Classification
As a minimum for each product, the Eco-Materials Database contains:
• Raw materials used in manufacture
• Life-span
• Labelling and Certification information, including environmental standards
• Embodied Energy information
• Information on waste and emissions during use/installation. Removal, re-use and recycling information.
The product of certified tests and life-cycle analysis, this information is provided directly to subscribers online by manufacturers and suppliers. The Eco-Materials database allows:
• The identification of factors influencing the environmental and health impacts of a product.
• A means to present information on the composition and labelling of materials, in addition to precautions for use.

If you are a manufacturer or supplier of construction materials, give your products exposure to the European Eco and Sustainable construction market by offering objective and transparent product information to potential customers through the Eco-Materials Database.
Incorporation in the Eco-Materials database provides the following benefits to suppliers:
• The publication of technical and environmental information sheets in an accessible and proven format
• Immediate exposure to the buyers and specifiers from 15 different European countries via the electronic product information sheet circulated in French and English to our database of contacts. • Priority invitations to trade shows and commercial events organised by CD2E where you can promote your products directly to your customers.
Our Services
Product information submitted for inclusion in the Eco-Materials Database is analysed by two groups of industry experts in order to prepare and then publish the data in a clear, consistent and standardised format.
The costs to you are as follows:
- €280 (including tax) per product for a range of 1 to 3 materials or products similar in terms of composition.
- €350 (including tax) for a range of 3 to 8 materials or products similar in terms of composition.
Technical Analysis
CD2E engage two consulting organisations to provide detailed analysis of the environmental and health impacts of your products throughout its lifeycle. This analysis is then presented in a standardised format for inclusion in the Eco-Materials Database.

Key to the usefulness of the Eco-Materials database is the provision of accessible and simplified information.
As part of the analysis and production of product information sheets, the CD2E team of consultants may also approach suppliers for supplementary information in order to provide the full and accurate picture of the product.
Once the technical analysis has been carried out, the information for publication is reviewed by a forum drawn from subject matter experts (SMEs).
The forum of SMEs includes:
1. Craftsmen
2. Builders
3. Distributors
4. Architects
5. Building Studies/Research Bodies
6. Building Control/Inspection Organisations
The diversity of this group coupled with their individual areas of expertise ensure that you will receive a fully objective analysis of your product.
Once the data has undergone this process of review and validation and the product meets the appropriate criteria for inclusion, it can then be published on the CD2E Eco-Materials Database.
