Presentation of Eco-Businesses
Definition
An Eco-Business is any business that produces goods and services capable of measuring, preventing, averting, minimising or correcting damage to the environment, such as water, air and soil pollution and problems linked to waste and noise. Products and services that reduce environmental risks and minimise pollution and use of resources are also included.
Panorama of Eco-Businesses in Nord-Pas-de-Calais
Returns from a survey conducted in the form of questionnaires sent out to Eco-businesses in our region provided us with valuable information for analysis and were used to put together the Nord-Pas de Calais 2004-2005 directory of Eco-Businesses in paper format.
Analyses based on this information were established following cd2e's criteria and will be modified as we receive new data. This is a starting point and we will be sure to integrate into our site the new research studies in this field which will be emerging from our region’s dynamism in environmental matters over the coming months.
Currently, the majority of Eco-Businesses employ under a dozen people. Including companies that have not provided a figure, and assuming that these have at least one employee, 58% of the Eco-Businesses with under 10 employees in our region operate in the environmental sector.
Consulting and technical research bodies, as well as organisations specialising in the recovery of different types of waste, have a strong presence in Nord-Pas de Calais. 43% of Eco-Businesses registered with the commerce registry are based in the Lille Metropole.
